Research > Long-term Research

A certain portion of the FIA-FSP annual budget is allocated to long-term research that will not produce publishable results within 3 years. The maximum approval in principle is 3 years, subject to the availability of future funding, satisfactory progress, and approval of annual work plans. Projects of longer duration must reapply through the competitive process every 3 years to assess their relevancy and cost-effectiveness.

Long-term research projects must support the strategic research priorities identified in the FIA-FSP Strategic Plan.

Activities eligible for funding under the Long-term Research funding envelope are currently being reviewed and will be provided here once they have been established.

The 2009/10 FIA-FSP is providing $190,958 to support site maintenance, core monitoring, and knowledge asset protection on 13 LTR projects. The table below identifies the number and value of LTR projects recommended for funding in 2009/10, by duration.
